Substance Abuse Prevention Organizations
Al-Anon 
Al-Anon has information for families and friends of alcoholics.

Children of Alcoholics Foundation 
The Children of Alcoholics Foundation’s mission is to help children
of all ages from alcoholic and substance abusing families reach their full
potential by breaking the cycle of parental substance abuse and reducing
the pain and problems that result from parental addiction. To realize this
goal, COAF, an affiliate of Phoenix House, develops curriculum and other
educational materials, writes reports, provides information about parental
substance abuse for the general public, trains professionals and promotes
research.

Johnson Institute 
The Johnson Institute was established to improve and expand the public's
understanding of addiction as a treatable illness, and promote the
power and possibility of recovery from alcoholism and other drug addiction.
They offer substance abuse prevention articles and commentaries and
distributes
materials through Hazelden.

Join Together 
A project of Boston University School of Public Health, Join Together
is a national resource center helping communities fight substance abuse,
as well as gun violence. Their Web site provides timely information on
legislation and other emerging issues related to substance abuse.

National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACoA) 
NACoA is a national nonprofit membership organization working on behalf
of children of alcohol and drug dependent parents. Their mission is to
advocate for all children and families affected by alcoholism and other
drug dependencies. They offer articles and commentaries and distribute
materials through NCADI.

National Association for Addiction Professionals 
NAADAC is the only professional membership organization that serves counselors
who specialize in addiction treatment. These experts are working to create
healthier families and communities through prevention, intervention and
quality treatment. They also present clinical and policy information for
professionals.

National Center for Substance Abuse Prevention Network (CAPT) 
CAPT is dedicated to bringing substance abuse prevention research to
practice.

National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) 
NCADD
has a Hopeline. Callers can leave name and address to receive written information
or to be referred to a local affiliate of NCADD.

National Institute on Alcohol
Abuse & Alcoholism
(NIAAA) 
NIAAA provides leadership in the national effort to reduce alcohol-related
problems. They conduct and support research in a wide range of scientific
areas surrounding alcohol consumption, prevention and treatment and disseminate
research to health care providers, policymakers and the public.

National Institute on Chemical Dependency/National
Institute for Chemical Dependency On-line Research (NICD/NICOR) 
The National Institute on Chemical Dependency/National Institute for
Chemical Dependency On-line Research provides up to date information and
direct contact assistance on health and wellness, medical, addictions, prevention,
recovery, mental health, spiritual, and social issues.

Oregon Family Partnership
The Oregon Family Partnership’s mission is to educate and enable Oregonians
to build safe and healthy communities by providing and supporting drug and
alcohol prevention education and treatment referral services.

Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) 
SADD has grown to become the nation's dominant peer-to-peer youth education
and prevention organization with thousands of chapters in middle schools,
high schools and colleges.
