Parents@Work: Labor Organization Partners

Corporations and other organizations employing or representing working parents, such as government agencies, unions and associations can support the Media Campaign by promoting teen drug prevention from the workplace into the home.

 
American Federation of Government Employees logo

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) participated in the Parents@Work program by distributing the Media Campaign's parent brochures - Keeping Your Kids Drug-Free: A How-To Guide for Parents and Caregivers and Wake Up to the Risks of Marijuana - to its 200 employees. AFGE is the nation's largest federal employee union, with 1,100 locals representing 600,000 federal and D.C. government workers nationwide and overseas.


American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees logo

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) participated in the Parents@Work program by publishing an article about the Media Campaign's youth drug prevention resources in AFSCME Public Employee membership magazine and posting the article on its Web site. AFSCME also provides links to TheAntiDrug.com and LaAntiDroga.com in the Health Care Resources section of its Web site. AFSCME represents 1.3 million public service and health care workers through more than 100 affiliated locals across the country.

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) participated in the Parents@Work program by offering a link to TheAntiDrug.com on "The Parent Page" of its Web site. AFT also offers links to the Media Campaign's TeacherGuide.org Web site to help teachers integrate youth drug prevention in the classroom. The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) sent a communication announcing its support of the Media Campaign and describing the Campaign's Parents@Work program to AFTRA locals for local-level implementation. AFTRA operates in 36 local offices across the country to rep


International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers logo

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) provided youth drug prevention messages to more than 600 employees. IBEW supported the Parents@Work program by including a “Back to School” article and a Wake Up to the Risks of Marijuana: A Guide for Parents brochure with paychecks to headquarter and district employees. IBEW also customized and displayed holiday marijuana prevention “Gift of Time” tips for parents on bulletin boards and in break rooms.


Laborers’ Health & Safety Fund of North America logo

The Laborers’ Health & Safety Fund of North America (LHSFNA), a joint labor-management organization, is providing youth drug prevention messages to its 800,000 laborers. LHSFNA featured “Steer Clear” tips for parents of teen drivers in its Web site posting for National Drunk and Drugged Driving prevention month.

The National Education Association (NEA) and its affiliate Health Information Network (NEA HIN) have been involved extensively in the Media Campaign. In February 2002, then NEA president Bob Chase participated in the launch of the Campaign's Parents@Work program at the New York Stock Exchange, urging all unions to get involved. NEA HIN has since published an article about the Parents@Work program in NEA Today membership magazine and posted the article on its Web site. NEA HIN has also posted a marijuana-related article and links to TheAntiDrug.com and other Campaign sites - including MediaCampaign.org, TeachersGuide.org, StraightScoop.org and Freevibe.com - on its Web site. NEA HIN distributed approximately 1,000 of the Media Campaign's parenting brochures - Keeping Your Kids Drug-Free: A How-To Guide for Parents and Caregivers - during a national membership meeting. NEA serves 2.7 million school employees across the nation.


United Farm Workers of America logo

United Farm Workers of America (UFW) joined the Parents@Work program by providing youth drug prevention messages to its 25,000 union members. UFW aired four Spanish-language PSAs on nine Spanish-language radio stations in California, Arizona, and Washington. The Union distributed Campaign resources such as the Keeping Your Kids Drug-Free: A How-To Guide for Parents and Caregivers, and Wake Up to the Risks of Marijuana: A Guide for Parents brochures at its health fair on drug prevention. Additionally, partnership activities include signing the Media Campaign’s open letter ad to Hispanic parents, displaying Spanish-language posters and parenting brochures in ten UFW field offices, and linking to LaAntiDroga.com from the UFW Web site.


United Food and Commercial Workers International Union logo

The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) supported the Parents@Work program by publishing an anti-drug article in its Women's Network News membership magazine and providing a link to TheAntiDrug.com on the UFCW Web site. Through its 664 locals, the UFCW represents 1.4 million employees in the retail food, meat-packing, poultry and other food processing industries.
